About Upward Mobility
Based in Edinburgh, Upward Mobility is a charity that provides tailored support and opportunities for young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism. They help them develop life skills, build confidence and achieve their potential by providing a diverse range of creative, education, and social activities to take part in.
Upward Mobility have several programmes in their curriculum including Creative Arts, Outdoor Learning, Upmo Connect, Employability, Health and Wellbeing, and Collaborative Projects. They currently support 162 students and have delivered over 2,800 creative, educational and vocational workshops across their 7 locations in Edinburgh, East Lothian, and Midlothian.
About Signalong Friendly
The Signalong Friendly membership scheme is for those who are proud supporters of Signalong and would like to let other know of their commitment to providing a signing inclusive environment.
Signalong Friendly is for any organisation that uses Signalong to interact and support those with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and English as an additional language can become Signalong Friendly and be assessed against the criteria.
Members receive a certificate to display in their organisation, their logo on our website, use of the Signalong Friendly logo on printed material, literature, their website, and a copy of one of our core manuals, appropriate to their organisation e.g Phase 1, Adult Learning Disability, Health Vocabulary, discounts on resources and training, and exclusive access to offers and new products.
What Do You Need to Demonstrate to Become Signalong Friendly?
Members must agree to uphold the values of Signalong, The Communication Charity by:
- Understanding some of the early development of language, social interaction and communication
- Understanding how sign supported communication supports children and adults with speech, language, and communication needs
- Using signing skills and signs to interact and communicate with others

How Much Does It Cost and How Do You Apply
We offer three membership levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold and each come with benefits including access to our online Sign Library which is usually £100 + VAT. To view the prices for both new members and charitable organisations with an income of less than £50,000 click here.
Applicants need to demonstrate where they believe they have met the appropriate criteria with guidance from Signalong if necessary and complete the application form.
